A Good Excuse

Oops! I need a good excuse for what happened to my homework, but is this it?

A Junior to Intermediate monologue for girls and boys.

At some time in one’s life it may be necessary to have a good excuse for something you haven’t done. This is a really good excuse.

“And when I tried to get (my homework) back this dog bared it’s fangs at me and a lady from the house said she’d give it back to me but this willy willy came along and carried it way up into the air and….”

Oh yes, a most ingenious excuse indeed.

A GOOD EXCUSE (boy or Girl) JUNIOR

Michele Lourie c 2016

(Enters talking to him/herself)

I’ll start off with saying, “You do look nice today, Mrs James.” That’ll put her in a good mood. It always works with Mum.

Then I’ll say, “Mrs James, I did do my homework but just as I was walking to the bus stop this big boy came past on a skateboard and grabbed it out of my hand,

THE..EN… when I chased him he threw it over the fence of a house that has a ginormous dog as big as a horse

AND …. when I tried to get it back this dog bared it’s fangs at me and a lady from the house said she’d give it back to me

BU…U…T… this willy willy came along and carried it way up into the air

AND I raced after it – keeping my eyes on it all the time – BUT ran into a rubbish bin

– that’s why I’ve got this egg on my shirt –

THEN after I’d picked up all the rubbish, I saw my homework fall into the river and float away and I was going to jump in and swim after it

BUT…. but ….. then the bus came and I didn’t want to be late for school……..

SO that’s what happened, really, truly, Mrs James.”

(pause)

I reckon that should do it!
