Is there anything more annoying than someone flicking the remote through the channels, unable to settle upon a television show to watch? This poem makes a wonderful ‘poems in pairs’ vehicle as the theme jumps from topic to topic.
IN CONTROL
By Michele Lourie
The tiger leapt into the air
His claws unsheathed and vicious
The prey completely unaware –
This sauce is so delicious
It goes with chicken, beef or lamb
And the recipe? So quick!
First measure once, and then again,
Now make a little nick.
A chisel is the best to use,
That couldn’t be a try!
The fullback shepherded the wing.
They’ve given it! But why?
This movie should an Oscar win
It’s emotion and its scope
Is absolutely breathtaking,
But surely there’s some hope?
Look, here’s the ring, an emerald,
It comes with – well-meshed gears,
I’ve never seen a better car
Than this, in all my years.
The cops are almost at the door
They mustn’t find the loot
Run, hide it, hide it somewhere, fast,
A flautist plays a flute.
That’s perfectly correct, and now
The final question – ready?
How many people ….Victorian era
A true antique, your teddy,
Worth thousands in an auction,
And now, that’s worth a quote!
Please Mum, we really need your help,
Dad’s controlling the remote!
