Should a robber wash his clothes in order to make a ‘clean get-away’? 4 stanzas of 4 lines each.

THE ROBBER

by Michele Lourie c 2017

Two robbers sat in their hideout

Their faces showing their fear,

“Can you hear the police car sirens?

Sound like they’re very near.”

“Yes,” said the other miscreant,

“I think we have done our dash,

Robbing that bank in the city

Was maybe a little bit rash.”

Getting up, the first thief took all his clothes off

His trousers, then shirt and black mask,

In the washer they went, as his mate said,

“Why are you doing this now, may I ask?”

“Isn’t it clear,” said the other

“That doing crime does not pay?

So I’m washing my things in a hurry

To be sure of a clean get-away!”
