PERFECT MANNERS
Michele Lourie c 2016
It’s not always one finds an animal
Who is well-bred and polite
Most creatures attending mixed gatherings
Seem to end up in a fight.
That’s why it was with some surprise
When out on the African veldt
I came across a pride of lions –
And pride is what I felt.
I’d wandered far away from camp
Some photographs to take
When there appeared the King of the Jungle
And I began to shake.
He sprang and held me with his claws,
I knew my time was through
As with perfect manners the lion said
“So very pleased to EAT you.”
