Mother Duck to the mall waddled her way

With six ducklings behind, on a bright autumn day.

“Now darlings,” she said, “we will need lots of gear

For the winter is coming when the cold is severe”

“We need beanies and jumpers with fur-lined insides,

An almanac telling the weather and tides,

Raincoats for days when that weather gets rough

Mudflaps for ears …. Oh, all sorts of stuff.”

The shopkeeper watched as the purchases grew

He smiled as he totted up all that was due.

With everything bagged they walked from the store

The man catching up with Ms Duck at the door.

“Madam,” he cried, “now you have what you need

It is time to pay up.” Mother Duck paid no heed.

“My dear sir,” she quacked in a tone that was shrill.

“Don’t bother me now! Put it all on my bill.”
