This poem can be used for individual and choir work. It is most suited to the age area of 6 years and under – the age when an imaginary friend seems real.
MY FRIEND THE GNOME
Michele Lourie
When a little gnome
Came to our home
I wanted him to stay.
But Mum said, “No,
Out he must go –
He’ll just be in the way”
(1st) SO ………..
(2nd) I took him to my cubby house
(All) And made a tiny bed
With a flower for a pillow
So my gnome could rest his head.
(1st) THEN …….
(2nd) I borrowed Nana’s thimble
(All) And filled it way, way up
With the sweetest orange cordial
So my friend now had a cup.
(1st) AND ……
(2nd) My gnome was very happy
(All) A wish he said he’d grant
I said “I want to be like you
No bigger than an ant.”
(1st) WELL …..
(2nd) No sooner said than it was done
(All) And all throughout each day
We played some games and had such fun
Until he went away.
SO …. ..If a gnome comes to your house
THEN….Be careful what you say,
AND … Don’t ask to be made small like him
WELL…. Or you might just stay that way!
