GOOD SIGN
by Michele Lourie c 2016
Walking into the classroom one day
The teacher looked around
Each student sat like a statue
Not one of them made a sound.
The master fixed his beady eye
On a boy in the very back row.
“Where have you been, Charles, these past two weeks?
Speak up, we all want to know”.
“Sir, it’s not my fault I’ve not been here
For I found that every day
A man with a sign had me turn around
And go the other way”
“Just what did the sign say?” the master asked
In a voice so loud and clear,
Charlie answered, a cheeky grin on his face,
“It said, STOP Children crossing here.”
