The classroom swelters in the afternoon sun
as the teacher, bee-like, drones remorselessly on.
Through the open windows the cloudless sky beckons
while a gentle breeze fitfully ruffles the leaves of nearby trees
yet obstinately refuses to cool my fidgeting body.
From the corner of my eye I vaguely discern the other students;
their blurred images like rounded boulders
upon which the tide of knowledge breaks itself
throwing up huge sprays of misty chalk-dust.
