A little bat has no fear of the dark, only of the light. How can one sleep when the sun is high in the sky? 6 stanzas of 4 lines each.
A BRAVE LITTLE BAT
Michele Lourie c 2016
I’m just a small bat
Who tries to be brave,
I live with my Mum
In a cosy, damp cave.
I echolate daily
Things I cannot see,
I bet there are burglars
Who’d love to be me.
My food’s mostly fruit
Though, if they’re in range
A bug or a beetle
Makes a nice change.
My wings, fully spread,
Resemble a kite
Or a blood-curdling vampire
Out to give all a fright.
But I’m not very brave
As the dawn comes around
When I hang upside down
High up off the ground.
It’s then I get shivery
And cry out in fright
“Mum, turn off the sun, please,
I’m afraid of the light!”
