What a wonderfully intricate construction is a spider’s web! 2 stanzas of 6 lines/ 1 stanza of 4.
NATURE’S ENGINEER
By Michele c 2017
The construction is delicate, so finely wrought
The eye can’t conceive this skill is self-taught.
Interlaced lines of high tensile strength
In ratio to size, throughout breadth and length.
Formed overnight, sheened with morning dew
A deadly trap almost hidden from view.
At the centre is settled the bold engineer
Patience rewarded as unwary draw near.
Vibrations of trembling creatures awake
The predator, his food bank is now at stake.
He moves quickly, smoothly, alive to the cue
Down the strings he attached by invisible glue.
The struggles of victims will not cease
Only with death will they find their release.
They are wrapped, tiny Mummies in strands of steel
Ready and waiting for the spider’s next meal.
