CAUGHT IN THE ACT  DUOLOGUE

Michele Lourie c 2016

(Actor 1 enters and takes a bite from the piece of chocolate cake on the table centre stage. Actor 2 enters)

Actor 2:          Hey! What are you up to?

Actor 1:          (hastily hides cake behind back)

                        Nothing!

Actor 2:          Then why do you look so guilty?

Actor 1:          I do not look guilty. What do you mean ‘guilty’?

Actor 2:          (spells it incorrectly)

‘G-I-L-T-Y’….. guilty. You should see your face.

Actor 1:          You should learn to spell. You left the ‘u’ out.

Actor 2:          (looks about and tries to look behind Actor 1’s back)

Mum left the last of the chocolate cake out last night, so where is that?

Actor 1:          Chocolate cake? What chocolate cake?

Actor 2:          (spies the cake behind Actor 1’s back. Actor 1 brings it forward, reluctantly)

                        That chocolate cake!

(inspects it)

                        You’ve eaten half of it!

Actor 1:          Have not! I just took one small bite.

Actor 2:          It would be a small bite if you were a dinosaur, but you’re just a greedy

sneak.

Actor 1:          There’s no need to call me names. Look I’m …. putting ….. it …..down,

Miss/Mr Goody-two-shoes. Please don’t tell Mum.

Actor 2:          I might have to. I mean, how can you explain the big piece out of it?

She’s sure to notice it.

Actor 1:          Ok, Ok, I’ll tell her I ate some. Don’t you say anything.

Actor 2:          Oh don’t worry, I won’t mention it.

(Actor 1 exits in a huff)

Actor 2:          (smiles slyly)

                        That went well.

(takes a big bite, puts it down and exits)
