A Tall Tale poem about a pommie and a thirsty dog.

Local Knowledge : 9 stanzas each of 4 lines about a mangy dog and an innocent drinker.

He stretched and yawned and scratched an ear,

Then, from the hot verandah,

He headed for the Public bar

In a drunken-like meander.

I watched him as he made his way

Across the bar-room floor

And hoped the drinker standing there

Had drunk in here before.

The drinker was an English bloke

Out visiting relations.

He’d never been to country pubs

Nor even cattle stations.
